As a Forensic Expert – Premises Liability and Workplace Safety Expert you are responsible for working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to evaluate accidents involving multiple areas of investigation such as biomechanics, human factors, mechanical design, and/or code violation(s). You will investigate and analyze failures and accidents to determine root causes. Using a variety of objective evidence collected, you will render expert decisions on whether a defect or unsafe conditions in premises caused or contributed to resulting injury or damages. You will conduct measurements and document the scene where an injury has allegedly occurred and compare to relevant codes and requirements to determine if the incident site is not compliant.

  • Investigate and evaluate accidents involving multiple areas of investigation such as biomechanics, human factors, mechanical design, and/or code violation(s);
  • Collect and analyze information that is a valid basis for a sound forensic analysis as to the alleged injuries sustained by an individual interacting with their environment;
  • Assess incident site to determine proper signage, adequate lighting, slip resistance of flooring, and code compliance of railings, walkways, stairways, curbs, ramps and other architectural structures;
  • Perform detailed measurement at site to determine if any code violation(s) or other legal liability;
  • Perform site and evidence inspections;
  • Prepare expert reports of scientific findings, including measurements, damages, distances, and scene and roadway surface(s) information, and conclusions relative to liability to determine if a defect of unsafe conditions in premises caused or contributed to resulting injury or damages;
  • Ability to communicate technical terminology effectively in lay-person terms to client;
  • May provide expert witness testimony via depositions or in a court of law, as needed; and
  • Physical requirements (as Physical Requirements, below).
  • College degree in engineering, or related field
  • Relevant experience in industry may be substituted for the College degree
  • 1-5 years of industry experience reconstructing and analyzing injury producing incidents to evaluate and determine mechanisms of injury and liability; preferred
  • Experience with dynamic testing, data collection or data analysis
  • Knowledge of relevant codes, or ability to fully research applicable codes
  • Technical writing abilities
  • Proficient computer skills working with various office equipment, computers and various programs including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, etc. and the ability to effectively work on spreadsheets, word processing, networking, and e-mail programs
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills and be able to interact effectively with technical and non-technical people
  • Ability to project a calm and professional demeanor regardless of the type of environment (calm or fast paced) or type of clientele
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, self-motivated, and a team player
  • Able to work with finite deadlines and prioritize competing deadlines
  • The ability to work independently, and as a contributor in a group environment

  • This position is physical in nature and requires some agility and physical strength, with the below being considered essential job functions:
  • Ability to be present at accident scenes in all elements to gather relevant data, requires agility to get on the ground, crawl into confined spaces, kneel, bend, or squat as needed;
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds without restriction; and
  • Ability to travel or be in the field up to 75% of the time without restriction.
  • Prior experience with premises liability cases and/or workplace safety requirements and violations
  • Prior experience writing reports, utilizing objective information to reach conclusion relative to causation
  • Certifications through OSHA (requirement for continued employment)
  • Certifications in slip resistance measurement and training
  • CXLT certification (requirement for continued employment)
