Requirements

  • Professional designation as a CFA, CFE, or CIA.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop investigative and prosecution strategies for cases involving economic fraud or financial crimes.
  • Examine accounting, business, and financial records of entities under investigation.
  • Provide expert witness testimony in court or other judicial proceedings.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct investigations of complex financial transactions and records.
  • Trace sources of funds and the disposition of disbursements.
  • Investigate and reconstruct destroyed or falsified records.
  • Analyze audits and compilations prepared by CPA firms and other auditors.
  • Gather, assemble, preserve, and report facts and evidence from investigations and audits.
  • Assist attorneys in interviewing suspects and witnesses regarding financial transactions.
  • Determine appropriate investigative techniques in consultation with attorneys.
  • Prepare summaries, graphic illustrations, and exhibits for courtroom use.
  • Advise investigators and attorneys on accounting matters related to fraud.
  • Testify in court as an expert witness in forensic accounting.
  • Assess and comment on the work of other professionals.
  • Supervise subordinate staff and evaluate work of consultants or contractors.
