About The Position

As a Foreman, you will play a key role in overseeing cargo movement, supervising terminal staff, and ensuring smooth, safe, and organized operations across the warehouse, terminal, and yard. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Knowledge of rigging and heavy lift cargoes with appropriate training.
  • Familiarity with break-bulk commodities and maritime operations.
  • Ability to manage small teams and work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to perform minor or routine maintenance on equipment and machinery.
  • Experience operating forklifts.
  • Physically fit to perform essential job functions, including lifting, climbing, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work rotational shifts, including long hours as required.
  • Commitment to customer service and compliance with all operational directives and company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Directly oversee the movement of cargo within the terminal, ensuring efficient and safe operations.
  • Supervise terminal clerks and labor during loading and unloading activities.
  • Assign duties to contract labor and evaluate the quality of work performed.
  • Ensure barges are drafted properly and develop stow plans for vessels and barges.
  • Oversee daily operations in the warehouse, terminal, and yard, maintaining organization and safety standards.
  • Inspect warehouses and facilities to ensure proper housekeeping and compliance with safety protocols; report any violations to management.
  • Identify and secure various cargoes, ensuring proper storage based on weight, dimensions, and weather sensitivity.
  • Oversee truck and railcar loading, ensuring correct storage and inventory management.
  • Inspect all gear and equipment, and perform minor or routine maintenance as needed.
  • Stage daily outbound shipments and ensure materials are available for loading as required.
  • Resolve issues related to inventory, loads, and cargo discrepancies, reporting findings to the terminal manager.
  • Maintain accurate records, including gang sheets, and submit documentation to the production manager.
  • Coordinate with terminal management to ensure adequate warehouse space and supervision for upcoming vessels.
  • Serve as a backup clerk and/or forklift operator as needed to support operations.
  • Maintain open communication with clerks, warehouse supervisors, terminal managers, and other personnel.
  • Report all incidents according to company protocols and support company safety initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support terminal operations.
