Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with pipe laying methods, practices and procedures for underground wet utilities.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience leading crews of varying sizes in completion of pipeline and wet utilities projects.
  • Considerable knowledge of water, sewer and storm drain systems.
  • Considerable knowledge of equipment operations used in pipe laying and wet utilities construction, and maintenance procedures.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of grades and blueprints.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.

Responsibilities

  • Control labor, material, supply and equipment costs to assure the job is completed on schedule and within budget.
  • Ensure all work is done in a safe and workman-like manner.
  • Complete all work to BPC quality standards the first time with no need to do work a second time to correct problems.
  • Hold a pre-job meeting with the Field Superintendent to determine the schedule and sequence of job activities.
  • Be clear on the job's Contract Scope of Work and ensure any work done outside the Scope of Work is authorized by the Customer's representative for additional payments.
  • Assure that only required amounts of sand, gravel and other materials are used on the job to prevent waste.
  • Complete the Excavation Checklist form at the beginning of each job and file it in the Foreman's Job Binder.
  • Return all excess materials, supplies and equipment from the job site as soon as they are no longer needed.
  • Plan the next week's job activities to determine the number of crew members needed each day and schedule deliveries of materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Review the weekly look-ahead plan with the Field Superintendent.
  • Provide supervision and direction to all crew members at all times.
  • Monitor employee job performance, productivity and adjust the size of the work crew as needed.
  • Ensure only qualified operators run the equipment.
  • Return rental equipment to the rental agency when it is no longer needed.
  • Manage the job to ensure all work requiring a particular piece of rental equipment is done at the same time.
  • Accomplish any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Field Superintendent.
