About the position

Oversees and directs multiple electrical production phases within the shipyard while ensuring production schedules are met. Reports directly to the Electrical Superintendent, and performs under the general direction of the Electrical Manager or other Division Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises lead workers and provides guidance to lead workers regarding supervision of employees and schedules overtime as required.
  • Ensures safe working conditions in production areas and assists in conducting safety meetings.
  • Coordinates work assignments and instruction of employees with lead workers to ensure proper, efficient work procedures.
  • Reviews production drawings and determines production requirements, equipment and procedures.
  • Comprehends project schedules, identify scope of work, installation durations and manning requirements.
  • Monitors electrical production daily and requisitions additional material, equipment and manpower as required.
  • Coordinates with Superintendent and Quality Control Manager to ensure product compliance with Company standards and specifications.
  • Tracks and reports installation status through mechanical completion and ensure systems are ready for testing and commissioning.

Requirements

  • Ability to effectively communicate, instruct, build and direct an electrical production team.
  • Ability to plan cost effective work procedures compatible with quality requirements.
  • Comprehends and follows blueprints/notes, schematics/notes, wiring diagrams/notes, vendor manuals, etc.
  • Possess a comprehensive knowledge of hazardous area equipment classifications, and IP ratings for proper installation.
  • Familiar with offshore drilling rigs and equipment including drill floor equipment, mud processing equipment and support equipment as in HPU's, Service Air, Power Generation and controls.
  • Familiar with Variable Frequency Drives.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Experience Using Microsoft Word; Excel; Access.
  • Familiar with regulatory authorities and updated Codes; DnV/ABS/Coast Guard/API/MODU/NEC/IEEE/IEC

Nice-to-haves

  • Formal training i.e. 4 year Electrical Apprenticeship Program, Vocational certification, Trade School for Electrical Commercial/Industrial Wiring, or Equal.
  • 10 + years' experience in the Marine Ship Building and/or Offshore construction industry with knowledge of Hazardous Area classifications and equipment.
  • 5 + years' experience holding a foreman position in the Marine Ship Building and/or Offshore construction industry.
  • H.S. diploma or GED, supplemented by course work in production management, industrial technology or related area or equivalent job training/experience.
  • Experience in shipyard operations and supervision.
