About The Position

With more than 11,000 employees, HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division is the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi and a major contributor to the economic growth of Alabama. For nearly 85 years, we’ve designed, built and maintained amphibious ships, destroyers, and cutters for the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. The largest supplier of U.S. Navy surface combatants, we’re simultaneously building four classes of ships and have pioneered the development and production of technologically advanced, highly capable ships for the surface Navy fleet for decades. The role supervises, assigns, coordinates and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience and job knowledge. Supervises and trains employees to improve quality and quantity of work performed. Recommends training to enhance skill and productivity of employees, and assists in development of training procedures. Breaks broad strategies down to practical action plans and ensures employees are trained to perform these plans. Responsible for complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, etc. Responsible for manufacturing, installation, operation, testing, and process operations that have a significant financial impact on the company's performance. Supervises qualified trades staff; monitoring job and budget performance for all shifts.

Requirements

  • Possess a thorough technical knowledge of the trade in the area of responsibility.
  • Have a solid educational base, generally gained through successful completion of the Apprentice program or the equivalent in education and training.
  • If without an Apprentice Certificate or equivalent, a minimum of 3 years trade experience, preferably with some exposure to production planning and support functions.
  • Able to supervise the work of others.
  • Motivate and train employees.
  • Possess strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • BS/Apprentice -OR- High School and 4 years combined manufacturing, shipbuilding, trades, military experience -OR- Associate Degree in a Trade/Technical and 3 years of relevant manufacturing, shipbuilding, trade and/or military experience.
  • Internal candidates must have a Superior Attendance and Disciplinary Record.
  • Candidate cannot have more than 3 unexcused absences in the last 180 day period.
  • Candidate cannot have any safety DANS that result in a disciplinary layoff in last 180 day period.
  • Candidate cannot have more than 2 total DANS in the last 180 day period (excluding lost tool).
  • Must be willing and able to work any shift assigned.
