About The Position

Foreman - Dirt Construction Team Elmer's seeks to fill an opening for a skilled Foreman. This position will d irectly supervise and coordinate activities of equipment operators and laborers on construction job sites. Perform supervisory and management and will also engage in the same construction trades work as the workers they are supervising. Duties and Responsibilities: Recognize and communicate to Division Manager any job site problems, such as employee or job costing issues and complaints from the public Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed, bring problems to the attention of the Division Manager, Safety Director or HR Manager. Coordinate, direct and lead workers. Assign work to employees. Supervise crews to obtain top quality workmanship, efficiency, employee satisfaction, morale, communication, commitment, teamwork and pride. Review and verify employee time and approve daily. Ensure that hours are assigned properly. Suggest and initiate personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, hires and training requirements. Adhere to the company's Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Policy when taking part in any employment action or decision, such as job assignment or layoff. Analyze and resolve worker problems. Regularly communicate with Shop Team Leader about repair and maintenance needs on all major pieces of equipment on assigned jobs. Relate to the public and to customers in a professional, courteous and respectful manner, appropriately responding to their complaints. Follow daily foreman procedures & protocols as set forth in job orientations and trainings. Perform tasks involving physical labor at highway and heavy construction project sites. Will operate a variety of hand and power tools. Dig dirt using shovels and machinery. Operate equipment as needed. May clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, clean up rubble and debris and remove waste materials. Read grades, lift and carry objects & materials of various weights. Help maintain equipment by keeping it clean and in proper working order. Report any damaged or unsafe equipment to Project Manager or Division Manager immediately. Practice safety at all times including driving of company vehicles or use of equipment. Use PPE while on jobsite e.g. hard hat safety glasses, ear protection, high visibility vest, steel toe boots, pants, and gloves. Take initiative and anticipate what needs to be done. Work in conjunction and as a team with your crew. Will be required, as needed, to regulate traffic on jobsites. Other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • Valid license, CDL preferred.
  • Clean driving record for past 5 years.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
  • Basic knowledge of administration and management.
  • Must be able to plan, allocate resources, manage production and coordinate people and equipment.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods and the tools involved in the construction industry or specific company division.
  • Strong coordination, time management, active listening, oral and written expression and comprehension, critical thinking and reasoning skills.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment when carrying out duties and to maintain good working relationships with the public and fellow employees.
  • Strong mathematical abilities and the ability to remember words, numbers and other information.
  • Must be able to read, understand and apply information obtained from blueprints, surveys and job specifications.
  • Ability to see details at close range (within a few feet).
  • A minimum of two to four years of related skill, knowledge or experience is needed for these occupations.
  • Experience and training must include methods, techniques, equipment and hands-on experience in a supervisory position.
  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and understand your role on the team.
  • Ability to work long hours and perform repetitive lifting, carrying, climbing, and walking.
  • Repetitive lifting could be 40 or more pounds at any one time.
  • Ability to work long hours and 5-6 days a week in all environmental conditions.
  • Good work ethic, punctuality and alertness.
  • Mechanical -- Knowledge of equipment, machines and tools including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced mechanical skills a plus.
  • Ability to use a transit to establish grades and lay out projects.
