About The Position

Overview Employer paid benefits - Medical, Dental, and Vision.   Wage Compensation - Min: $ 23.73  Max: $ 34.35   Primary purpose is to provide translation and interpreter services, both written and oral to Spanish speaking patients, their families and staff throughout the clinic. When not interpreting, the incumbent will perform other duties in the clinic as assigned including clerical tasks, transporting and patient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required - Copy of diploma/GED required upon hire.
  • Certification as a medical interpreter - must obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, and common procedures. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in operating computers, phones, and office equipment.
  • Familiar with insurance regulations and medical terminology.
  • Knowledgeable in filing procedures and recording documentation.
  • Skilled in using various software applications, including Microsoft Word and electronic health records.
  • Adapt to changing responsibilities and maintain composure and efficiency.
  • Demonstrate a positive, tactful, and collaborative attitude.
  • Work independently while managing multiple tasks effectively.
  • Uphold patient confidentiality and respect patients' rights.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-person or remote interpretation between patients, families, and healthcare providers in a timely, accurate, and respectful manner.
  • Translate medical terminology, symptoms, procedures, diagnoses, and treatment plans clearly and accurately.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations and interpreter ethics.
  • Assist with written translations of patient instructions, consent forms, or educational materials when necessary.
  • Serve as a cultural broker as appropriate, helping staff understand cultural nuances affecting communication.
  • Work effectively in urgent, high-stress medical scenarios with professionalism and composure.
  • Document interpreting services in the electronic health record (EHR) system as required.
  • Attend required training and continuing education to maintain interpreter certification and healthcare knowledge.
  • The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position. (reference program education curriculum).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
