About The Position

The Foreign Language Interpreter ensures that all services, communications, documentation, etc. provided by the CDSA are provided in a child's native language, as mandated by IDEA and Infant Toddler Program guidelines. Since our Hispanic population continues to grow and is the largest among the various cultures we work with, the need for Spanish interpreter services is great. Position is responsible for verbal interpretation of all information shared between CDSA staff and parents/caregivers and translation of local written materials, and serves as consultant to CDSA staff on the Hispanic culture.

Requirements

  • Translator shall be skilled in the ethical and accurate interpretation and translation of all verbal information and written materials.
  • The Interpreter/Translator will be proficient in English and Spanish and will be skilled in interpersonal relations and current technology and computer programs.
  • The Interpreter/Translator will also have an understanding of child development and developmental disabilities and be familiar with common childhood diagnoses.
  • A thorough understanding of the NC Infant Toddler Program and comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of local and regional human services programs is critical.
  • A general understanding of medical terms and skill in interpreting/translating the Hispanic equivalent of medical terms is required.
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in interpreting and translating English and the required foreign language in a setting that requires a knowledge of the programs or service; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
