About The Position

McCall Thomas Engineering Company, Inc. is seeking a Forecast Meteorologist to support electric utility operations through advanced weather, load, and renewable resource forecasting. This position supports generation dispatch, unit commitment, energy marketing, transmission reliability, and emergency response activities across the Service Areas. Work location: Moncks Corner, SC Work schedule: onsite M-F and as needed for special weather events As a McCall-Thomas Forecast Meteorologist , you will play a critical role in short-, medium-, and long-term weather, load/demand, and renewable resource forecasting across the electric service areas. This position requires the ability to analyze forecast uncertainty and clearly communicate weather-related risks and impacts to both technical and non-technical audiences. The role also supports emergency operations and storm response during major weather events and contributes to long-term climate analysis, regulatory support, and enterprise consultation services.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in the US without sponsorship
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science
  • Three (3) or more years of professional experience supporting operational meteorology, preferably within electric utility, energy, or critical infrastructure environments
  • Experience with load demand forecasting for energy markets and forecasting intermittent renewable resources
  • Strong understanding of forecast uncertainty and its impacts on system operations and energy markets
  • Ability to translate complex meteorological and statistical data into clear operational guidance
  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills with attention to detail
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment

Responsibilities

  • Provide short-, medium-, and long-term weather, load, and renewable resource forecasts to support energy marketing, trading, and operational decision-making.
  • Develop and test forecast improvement methodologies to enhance accuracy for load and renewable resources.
  • Analyze numerical weather prediction (NWP) models, evaluate forecast uncertainty, and translate complex meteorological data into actionable insights.
  • Deliver daily weather outlooks for enterprise operations and energy markets.
  • Develop and test forecast improvement hypotheses to enhance load and renewable forecasting accuracy.
  • Identify and alert management to meteorological events that may impact system reliability.
  • Provide forecasting consultation and decision support during high-impact weather events, including hurricanes, severe storms, and extreme temperature events.
  • Support outage and resource modeling, storm planning calls, and emergency preparedness operations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely notifications to the appropriate personnel.
  • Validate NOAA forecasts and provide interpretive insight and risk assessments to appropriate leadership.
  • Own, manage, and maintain weather and climate data sources used across the enterprise.
  • Conduct climate analyses and support long-term studies, special projects, and regulatory data requests.
  • Provide meteorological consultation services to operational and internal business groups as needed.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally in an open, team-based environment to meet enterprise objectives.
  • Maintain a professional working attitude with co-workers and customers at all times and adhere to safety practices and procedures.
