About The Position

The Fordham Road Practice Facility Monitor will support the day-to-day operations at Berklee College of Music. Specific duties and responsibilities include: provide customer service to the Berklee and Boston community, receiving a high volume of walk-in inquiries, perform light clerical duties, monitor the online reservations on AAOF and the practice rooms, conduct hourly rounds of the facilities. As well other assigned tasks. Knowledge of basic school information, office operations, and familiarity with all Berklee buildings/classrooms is required. Due to the high level of social interactivity demanded by this job, students in this position should be personable, friendly and able to multitask.

Requirements

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
  • Federal Work Study student may apply.
  • In good disciplinary standing.
  • Must be located in the U.S.
  • Knowledge of basic school information, office operations, and familiarity with all Berklee buildings/classrooms is required.
  • Always be respectful of others and represent Berklee in a positive manner.
  • The ability to work well with others, and to take directions on tasks and projects.
  • Positive attitude and focus on customer service.
  • Applicants must provide a cover letter and a resumé, and if hired, attend a training session.
  • Punctuality and reliability are a must as well as availability to work on weekends

Nice To Haves

  • Students who are able to work weekends and nights with flexibility and ability to come in on short notice
  • 6 months to 1-year experience preferred in any of the following: customer service, managerial, scheduling/logistics, inventory maintenance
  • P.A. setup, Live Sound engineering, monitoring and/or Stage tech experience a plus but not required

Responsibilities

  • Be stationed at the Front Desk to monitor entry into the facility
  • Check students ID’s and confirm reservations in the online database
  • Provide directions and information about the facility, answer incoming calls
  • Assist students in booking/ extending reservations
  • Log and track any borrowed equipment via the database (keyboards, cables, percussion, etc…) and insure equipment loaned out is returned in good working order
  • Moving equipment when necessary (up to 50lbs)
  • Conducting rounds throughout the facility to normalize rooms in between reservations, close doors, check equipment
  • Troubleshoot issues with PA systems, amplifiers
  • Reporting any necessary equipment repairs and/or student concerns to the staff supervisor
