The Pre-Program Vehicle Energy Management Engineer (VEME) is responsible for leading the target setting and early development of key VEME attributes (Weight, Fuel Economy, Performance Feel, and Aerodynamics) for future Ford Racing production vehicle programs. This role involves extensive cross-functional collaboration, target setting, modeling, validation, and risk management to ensure that Ford Racing production vehicles meet or exceed performance targets while adhering to program milestones. The VEME engineer will also be responsible for identifying and resolving trade-offs between competing attributes, developing roadmaps for improvement, and communicating attribute status to stakeholders.

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Aeronautical, or related) with 3+ years of Product Development experience desired.
  • Experience in various vehicle energy management (VEME) disciplines desired (Performance, Weight, Fuel Economy, Aerodynamics) and/or attribute delivery experience; program conceptualization through launch.
  • Experience in analytical modeling, system level testing, and correlation of testing to customer experience.
  • Strong enthusiasm for and knowledge of high-performance vehicles and the customers who purchase them.
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills required.
  • Need to be self-starter with ability to deliver results and overcome obstacles.
  • Position may require some travel or occasional extended hours.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of Product Development experience
  • Experience with vehicle data acquisition and analysis systems.
  • Experience with vehicle modeling software.
  • CAD knowledge and capability

Responsibilities

  • Lead benchmarking, modeling, target setting, and early development of the following cross functional vehicle energy management (VEME) attributes: Weight, Fuel Economy, Performance Feel, & Aerodynamics for Ford Racing production programs.
  • Consolidate and identify all trade-offs and negotiate countermeasures to resolve target conflicts across groups.
  • Lead roadmap development & execution on any underperforming VEME attributes.
  • Ability to deal with a large variety of functional teams (planning, marketing, program management, vehicle architecture, attribute and engineering teams) on a daily basis
  • Provide communication of VEME attribute status to key stakeholders and leadership to support program milestone declarations.
  • Work closely with mainstream and core teams to ensure best practices within Ford Racing regarding modeling, test methodology, report outs, process changes, etc
