About The Position

The Force Protection Officer (FPO) position at the State of Vermont is a full-time, limited service role responsible for securing military assets at the Burlington Air National Guard Base. The FPO will safeguard aircraft, controlled areas, and sensitive materials while controlling access to restricted zones. This role includes providing limited military law enforcement services and may involve working in a military dispatch center. Candidates must be prepared to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, and handle various security challenges in potentially adverse conditions.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Two or more years of experience in security or law enforcement.
• Completion of a military law enforcement/security technical school or police academy program.
• Completion of two years of full-time college coursework in law enforcement/criminal justice.
• Current valid State driver's license required.
• Ability to lawfully possess and qualify with firearms during probation.

Nice To Haves

• Military driver's license and/or airfield flight line permit.
• SECRET security clearance obtained during probation.

Responsibilities

• Secure and safeguard military aircraft, hangers, and specialized buildings.
• Control entry of personnel, contractors, VIPs, and visitors to restricted areas.
• Provide limited military law enforcement services.
• Work in a military 911 dispatch center as needed.
• Operate safely around moving aircraft and in restricted areas.
• Handle sensitive classified information responsibly.
• Work alone in adverse weather conditions while wearing heavy equipment.
