About The Position

The Food Shelf Driver Assist supports the warehouse and delivery functions of the High Rise Mobile Food Shelf program as we work to improve food security for low income older adults. The Driver Assist is responsible for supporting the Lead Driver with loading and delivering food support to High Rise Mobile Food Shelf partner sites. In the absence of the Lead Driver, the Driver Assist is responsible for fulfilling deliveries and donation pickups for the High Rise Mobile Food Shelf. The Driver Assist also supports other ESNS Food Programs—the Senior Food Shelf and Glendale Food Shelf—as needed with donation picks ups and order deliveries.

Requirements

  • Minimum 6 months straight truck driving experience, including hands-on freight pickup and delivery
  • Valid Minnesota Class D driver's license.
  • Have and maintain valid DOT health card.
  • Experience with food products and refrigerated freight.
  • Experienced in operating electric and manual pallet jacks.
  • Ability to positively represent ESNS Food Programs in communications with member agencies and donors.
  • Self motivated and able to work cooperatively with others.
  • Be able speak and read English.
  • Able to relate to people of varied ethnic, cultural backgrounds, ages and economic circumstances with respect and consideration.
  • Maintain client information confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Support order loading and unloading for High Rise Mobile Food Shelf deliveries and donation pickups (75%)
  • Assist Lead Driver in making accurate and on-time deliveries to the 49 High Rise Mobile Food Shelf program sites and produce distribution events.
  • Load and unload dock trucks for deliveries and donation pickups by hand or using electric pallet jacks and hydraulic lift gate.
  • Assist building volunteers with unloading food, bringing it into the building and onto tables when needed.
  • Assist with donation pickups, following procedures relating to sorting, food safety inspection and checking temperatures of perishable food items.
  • Provide excellent customer service to partners, participants and donors.
  • Operate dock truck safely and efficiently as needed (10%)
  • Drive 20’ straight truck to pick up donations or make deliveries in relief of regular driver.
  • Be familiar with High Rise Mobile Food Shelf delivery routes and pickup locations.
  • Complete documentation associated with each pickup and delivery.
  • Help clean and maintain food programs vehicles.
  • Inform Lead Driver of any vehicle maintenance or repair issue.
  • Help monitor truck refrigeration system and record truck refrigeration temperatures daily.
  • Assists with general East Side Neighborhood Services Food Programs activities (15%)
  • Deliver to and pick up from other East Side Neighborhood food programs as needed.
  • Collaborate with Director of Food Programs, Program Director of HRMFS and other staff members in order to formulate and implement policies, procedures, goals and objectives.
  • Participate in agency wide committees and events
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
