About The Position

The Food Services Manager will manage and oversee all functions of food production at our Stout Street Recuperative Care Center. The Food Services Manager will oversee the food preparation, dining services and schedule, and kitchen management for persons experiencing homelessness requiring recuperative care and support for an acute medical need. The facility features a commercial kitchen that serves three meals a day and snacks. Operational and administrative oversight includes but is not limited to budgetary compliance, grant management, supervision, staff scheduling, supply chain management, meal planning, and the coordination of external vendor relationships, contracts, and invoices for food. The Food Services Manager will also oversee the food and kitchen budget of the program. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience in the food industry who wants to make a daily impact supporting some of Denver’s most vulnerable neighbors.

Requirements

  • 2+ years cooking/kitchen management experience is required.
  • Understands or is able to learn how to support compliance with HACCP standards.
  • Some experience with budget oversight and documenting financials by maintaining records expenditures, meal counts, and compiling end of the month financial reports is required.
  • Some experience creating schedules for staff operations required; experience creating schedules in a daily food service environment preferred.
  • Experience in training of staff and supervisory experience coaching direct reports preferred.
  • Working knowledge of automated food inventory, ordering, and production and management systems preferred.
  • Current Colorado Serve Safe Certificate needs to be obtained before kitchen opens.
  • Valid driver’s license required. This requirement may be waived, if necessary, based on overall candidate experience and current needs of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Have the ability and willingness to develop and motivate team members to embrace culinary innovation and seek out and incorporate patient input into menu planning as often as possible.
  • Ensure that all meals and snacks meet nutritional requirements.
  • Uses culinary knowledge, enhances product quality by managing menu cycles and recipe development and prepares new recipes, documents result, and implements accordingly.
  • Manages purchasing, menu compliance, inventory, food cost analysis and food production forecasting based on number of patients.
  • Maintains food costs within budgeted amounts.
  • Shops for and/or order food from vendors, food banks, and other food service sources.
  • Maintains kitchen and dining area per Department of Public Health and Environment, state, local, city, and county regulations and internal policies.
  • Receiving, picking up, and stocking supply orders; ensures that stock rotation is followed and all store rooms/refrigerated items, coolers, equipment, and freezers are in order.
  • Responsible for proper documentation of temperatures (food items, refrigerators, and freezers), production records, sanitation, food safety, and any other necessary documentation. Checks logs frequently for accuracy of data and conducts weekly kitchen safety/sanitation audits.
  • Attends training provided by the Department of Public Health and Environment, and the City and County of Denver for food service as required.
  • Assists kitchen team in daily tasks and supports preparation and service duties.
  • Trains new and existing kitchen team members on the preparation, arrangement and plating of dishes per the current menu. Trains kitchen cooks on preparation.
  • Structures the day-to-day operations of the food production and service; dining room management; and assists in the supervision of the staff; serves as a liaison with leadership.
  • Performs duties as assigned.
