About The Position

This year, we are launching an expanded Summer Food Program featuring non-congregate feeding at three locations across the District: Hidden Valley High, Illinois Valley High, and North Valley High Schools. Each location will distribute 7-day meal boxes once per week on Wednesdays, replacing the previous two-pickup model. The pickup window will also be expanded to 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM to better support family schedules and increase participation. Each location will be staffed with a minimum of four positions working seven hours per day, five days per week. Up to 20 positions are available depending on program demand. Service will run from June 5th through August 14th, 2026, for a maximum of 50 days. Some applicants may be hired as substitute staff to fill in as needed. Existing Food Service staff will be compensated at their regular rate. District employees participating in the program will retain their step placement and be paid at the FS II rate. New employees will be placed at the FS II, Step 1 rate. Any Food Service employees assigned to Kitchen Manager roles for the summer program will be compensated accordingly based on that assignment. JOB SUMMARY Works with Food Service team members preparing nutritious and attractive meals for students and staff while maintaining a clean kitchen and cafeteria and observing all Health Department regulations to create a safe and healthy work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Follows and maintains knowledge of applicable District policy(ies) and procedures.
  • Assists in the preparation of school meals, to include participating in the planning, cutting, cooking and preparation of food items.
  • Assists in set up of serving lines and serving of food.
  • Measures accurate food temperatures.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work area.
  • Reacts to changes in food production and handles other tasks as assigned.
  • Washes dishes and operates automatic kitchen equipment maintaining sanitary specifications.
  • Accurately sets-up and stores equipment used to serve food.
  • Shuts off, breaks down, and sanitizes designated areas and items.
  • Rotates and stocks food on delivery days.
  • Knows and follows all safety and sanitary rules and regulations related to food handling.
  • Maintains a high standard of personal cleanliness and good grooming as per sanitation code and District policy.
  • Maintain records as required electronically and in printed format.
  • Assists in the maintenance of quality and portion control of food served.
  • Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
  • Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, administrators, and parents and resolves conflict in a professional manner.
  • Communicates clearly with coworkers and other staff.
  • Dress professionally for the position.
  • Attends work daily as assigned and is punctual.
  • Adheres to daily schedule.
