About The Position

At Banner, we are building our Culinary and Nutrition Services team with high performing, close knit and diverse group of individuals who take pride in providing our patients and staff with spectacular service. As a Food Service Worker, you will be responsible for providing service and assistance to patients, staff and other customers in accordance with established dietary and retail cafe policies and procedures. This role involves cleaning the kitchen and dining room, dishwashing, and cross-training in various kitchen areas such as barista, cashier, tray line, and other back-of-house and front-of-house duties to maintain process flow. You will also assist with food preparation, unbox and restock foods and supplies, including lifting and carrying boxes from storage. The position works as a member of the food service team on one or more assignments in cleaning, food preparation, patient trayline or retail café.

Requirements

  • Ability to learn and follow established policy and procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand written and verbal instruction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to provide customer service.
  • Ability to learn food handling regulations and pass certification tests as required.
  • POS (cash register) knowledge when applicable.
  • For Banner Staffing Services (BSS) team members, a food handlers' card is required within 30 days of hire (not required for BSS team members in Tucson and Colorado).
  • For employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
  • An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire for employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Provide service and assistance to patients, staff and other customers in accordance with established dietary and retail cafe policies and procedures.
  • Clean the kitchen and dining room and perform dishwashing throughout the day.
  • Be cross-trained to many areas in the kitchen, including barista, cashier, tray line, dishwashing, and other back of the house and front of house duties, ensuring process flow.
  • Assist with food prep, unbox foods and supplies, lift and carry boxes from storage and ensure shelves are restocked.
  • Set up work station and prepare all assigned foods and nourishments in the correct quantities, following established procedures, portion control and food quality standards.
  • Assure that food presentation continually meets standards.
  • Clean and sanitize dishes, flatware, trays, cups, glasses and cooking utensils.
  • Clean and sanitize designated equipment and kitchen areas disposing of all waste materials.
  • Monitor dish machine temperature.
  • Maintain par levels of foods and/or supplies in assigned areas, order and/or restock items in accordance with established routines, rotate food stocks, check expiration dates.
  • Check and record food and equipment temperatures according to defined procedures, and report any discrepancies to the supervisor.
  • Deliver meals, nourishments, late trays and/or tube feedings to units; return excess nourishments as requested (May).
  • Assist in catering or special event service (May).
  • Handle transactions at cash register and/or cafe (May).

  • 18%-night shift differential when applicable.
