About The Position

Under the general supervision of Food Services Director or Assistant Director, with lead direction from the Food Service Worker III, assists in the preparation, assembly, display and service of food to elementary school students. Maintains cleanliness and safety standards for facility and equipment.

Requirements

  • Ability and desire to work on a constant basis – minimum 1 time a month
  • Desire and ability to work and communicate effectively with staff, students and parents from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable, as assignments may change on short notice and may require coverage in various locations.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions and work at a moderately fast pace.
  • Ability to communicate in a cordial manner with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to work continuously at a moderate to fast pace.
  • Ability to fill the lead position when necessary.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to operate institutional kitchen equipment such as can opener, oven, etc.
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Ability to proficiently speak, write, and understand English.
  • Tacoma-Pierce County Food Service Handlers Card
  • Successful completion of fingerprint and background check

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Six (6) months of work experience in an industrial kitchen.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares food products, including opening cans, washing vegetables, heating, assembling and displaying food products.
  • Prepares food items for service to include: placing fresh and canned fruits and vegetables in bowls or pans, filling condiment containers, filling entrée item pans.
  • Assembles food service areas.
  • Serves assigned meal items to student and adult customers.
  • Replenishes food items as needed.
  • Maintains cleanliness, sanitation and safety standards of the facility and equipment.
  • Cleans lunch room tables after lunch period.
  • Cleans kitchen; disassembles and cleans serving station and equipment; reassembles after cleaning.
  • Performs other duties as required.
