About The Position

As a Food Service Worker at Shedd Aquarium, you will be a key member of our guest-facing team, ensuring that visitors enjoy a memorable dining experience while they explore our exhibits. This role involves serving delicious, premade food to guests at various food stations, such as Bubble Net or the Deep Ocean Café, with a focus on exceptional customer service. Whether you're handing out fresh popcorn and pretzels or serving from a food station, your positive attitude and dedication will play an important role in creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in food service, customer service, or retail is preferred but not required.
  • A friendly, approachable demeanor that helps guests feel welcome and valued.
  • The ability to engage with guests in a clear and respectful manner, answering questions and ensuring satisfaction.
  • A focus on quality, cleanliness, and food safety.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team, always maintaining a positive work environment.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 pounds, and work in a busy, high-energy setting.
  • Able to efficiently handle several tasks at once while maintaining focus on guest service and quality.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to communicate in English; additional language skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Greet guests with a warm and friendly attitude. Serve food with enthusiasm and provide assistance with menu selections, ensuring a positive and memorable experience for every guest.
  • Serve premade food items such as snacks, sandwiches, and other quick-service items to guests at assigned food stations. Maintain a clean and organized food station, ensuring that all items are stocked and presented attractively.
  • Ensure that all food is handled, stored, and served in accordance with food safety and sanitation guidelines. Adhere to health and safety standards while maintaining a clean and tidy service area.
  • Operate the cash register, process transactions accurately, and handle cash and credit card payments with professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow team members to ensure efficient food service. Assist with restocking items and maintaining food preparation areas as needed.
  • Proactively address any guest concerns, ensuring that they feel heard and that their needs are met promptly. Always go above and beyond to ensure a positive experience for every visitor.
  • Manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment, ensuring food is served in a timely manner while maintaining quality and consistency.
