About The Position

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of Sanitation and Food Handlers course preferred.
  • 1-2 years of food preparation experience required.
  • Large-scale food preparation and/or hospital dietary experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of sanitary methods used in food preparation and HACCP procedures.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous catering experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of a variety of foods and their preparation and serving etiquette.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for patient meal service food on assigned units, including menu selections, tray assembly, delivery, and pick-up.
  • Communicates patient food issues and needs to appropriate personnel within the Food and Nutrition department.
  • Interacts with nursing personnel regarding patient nutrition needs or requirements.
  • Assists Dietitian with monitoring patients on specific diets and records food intake for analysis.
  • Sets up, prepares, and delivers food for catering events.
  • Acts as a liaison between Food Services and hospital staff and external customers.
  • Handles customer service complaints and informs management of problems or concerns.
  • Operates cash registers in compliance with cash handling procedures.
  • Maintains all equipment in a safe and sanitary manner in compliance with HACCP guidelines and regulations.
  • Makes daily rounds to assigned nursing units, communicates with staff and patients, collects menus, and checks for accuracy and completeness.
  • Receives and prints diet sheets from SMS and distributes to catering personnel daily.
  • Assists patients in meal selection and completion of menus, considering preferences and special diets.
  • Enters menu selections into the Computrition system and distributes meal tickets.
  • Updates Computrition with relevant patient information as necessary.
  • Assembles meal trays while adhering to mealtime schedules and ensuring patient privacy.
  • Collects patient meal trays and documents food intake as ordered.
  • Communicates any last-minute changes to patients' diets to catering associates.
  • Performs dipper and runner position responsibilities and works in the dish room.
  • Delivers floor stock and nourishments to drop-off units.
  • Follows recipes for salad, sandwich, and dessert preparation.
  • Maintains proper standards of sanitation by daily cleaning of the work area.
