About The Position

City of Hope Orange County is transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care closer to home. Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County's only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025. With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care-from prevention through survivorship-will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. Seamlessly connected to our outpatient cancer center, the new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. This isn't standard cancer care. This is lifesaving cancer care. This is Hope. The Food Service Worker may work anywhere on property where food is prepared. This person will assist in setup and serving of food from counters and steamtables. Duties will include cleaning and sanitizing equipment and work stations. May be responsible for maintaining kitchen work areas, equipment and utensils. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but City of Hope may identify other responsibilities of the position.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of hot and/or cold foods, and the proper storage of food, utilizing knowledge of temperature requirements and spoilage.
  • Read recipes and/or product directions.
  • Estimate food requirements.
  • Operate a variety of kitchen utensils to weigh, measure, mix, wash, peel, cut, grind, stir, strain, season and knead foodstuffs for cooking, serving and storing.
  • Taste test products.
  • Brew coffee and tea.
  • Set up stations with entrées, soups, salads, breads, condiments, other food products and utensils.
  • Serve and replenish food from counters and steam tables and break down stations at the end of meal periods.
  • Interact with customers in the serving, retail and dining areas, assisting customers with opening containers and cutting food when requested.
  • Provide general stocking duties in service area.
  • Keep records for supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Restock other beverage areas.
  • Inspect workstations for compliance with service standards.
  • Clean and sanitize work stations and equipment and must follow all City of Hope and regulatory rules and procedures.
  • Wash dishes by hand or place them in a dishwashing machine.
  • Polish silver and wash pots.
  • Wash work tables, walls, refrigerators and meat blocks.
  • Sweep, mop, and clean/vacuum floors.
  • Clean equipment using specific chemicals to ensure sanitary standards.
  • Remove trash and garbage to designated areas.
  • Attend all allergy and foodborne illness in-service training.
  • Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
  • Attend training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
  • Work on a trayline to distribute food.
  • Comply with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures and report all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
  • Follow established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines.
  • Practice a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
