About The Position

The Food Service Worker 1 position at Jackson Memorial Long-Term Care Center involves routine food preparation and serving in a skilled nursing facility. The role supports cooks, dietitians, and other staff in maintaining sanitary standards while preparing and serving food to residents and staff. The worker is expected to demonstrate a courteous demeanor and provide excellent service in a multi-program health facility.

Requirements

  • Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
  • High School diploma is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares various cold food items and beverages for residents and staff as well as for special events.
  • Portions food and places it on proper serving dishes, wraps, labels, and dates before refrigeration.
  • Sets up and serves on the tray line.
  • Prepares and delivers nourishments/tube feedings to floors on time.
  • Breaks down cold food station, cleans area, utensils, and appliances after each use.
  • Bags silverware and stacks trays.
  • Sets up trays for Rehab and delivers them to Rehab dining.
  • Prepares early trays and bag lunches.
  • Checks production sheets for the next day, makes gelatin, toast, and pudding when needed.
  • Receives groceries, produce, frozen food, paper goods, and supplements and stores them appropriately.
  • Checks for bent/dented cans and damaged items.
  • Distributes food items to cooks and salad areas.
  • Checks menu and production sheets to ensure all food items needed are placed in the small storage room.
  • Loads food on food carts, pulls them to and from nursing units, and maintains them clean.
  • Strips carts, runs the dish machine, and washes dishes properly.
  • Performs light to heavy cleaning of food service equipment and areas.
  • Removes garbage, empty boxes, and milk crates as needed and runs the garbage compactor.
  • Maintains storage areas clean and orderly.
  • Follows established food preparation, serving, storing, and sanitation methods to prevent foodborne illness.
  • Accountable for fulfilling responsibilities in accordance with the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan and responding to emergencies or disasters.
  • Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Expertise).
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
