About The Position

Work involves responsibility for supervising and participating in the cooking and preparation of foods in accordance with prescribed menus and standard food preparation practices. Detailed instructions are received on changes in procedures and difficult matters, but regular work is normally carried out with independence. Work is reviewed for compliance with standards of cleanliness and quality.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, or any equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the proper knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Requires some knowledge in cooking and food preparation.
  • Knowledge of the requirements of preparing food for large groups.
  • Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of kitchen operations.
  • Ability to supervise and instruct subordinates engaged in standard food service work.
  • Ability to make calculations required for the preparation of recipes for large groups.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, students, faculty, and associates.
  • Skill in the operation of standard cooking and food preparation equipment.
  • Visual and auditory acuity for work functions, and skills in human relations.

Nice To Haves

  • First Aid/CPR certificate desired.
  • Some supervisory experience desired, but not necessary.
  • Some experience in the preparation of food and/or as a cashier.

Responsibilities

  • Clean, cut grind, mix and cook foods following established recipes.
  • Prepare and serve a variety of vegetables, meats, desserts, and other food items.
  • Supervise and participate in the operation of a school cafeteria, order supplies, and ensure sufficient quantities are on hand.
  • Supervise and participate in kitchen set up and the cleaning of equipment and facilities.
  • Instruct new staff on kitchen and serving area procedures.
  • Open kitchen, set up for faculty coffee breaks, prepare entrees and baked goods, and serve students and faculty.
  • Perform inventory of stock on a monthly basis and as needed verify correct and sufficient stock.
  • Check on the readiness of the facility to serve meals, and inspect facility for cleanliness.
  • May operate cash register, accept payment and make change, and count and record receipts plus deliver cash for deposit.
  • May supervise student assistants.
  • Ability to lift and carry approximately 25 lbs.
  • Perform related work as required.
