About The Position

The Food Service Specialist performs a wide range of duties related to preparing, cooking, and serving food and beverages in a re-entry program. This role also supports kitchen cleanliness, sanitation, food service setup, and safe handling of equipment and supplies. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Less than high school; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Must pass a background check and be approved for the position by the Florida Department of Corrections
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills
  • Team-oriented with strong interpersonal boundaries
  • Must have or obtain within 2 weeks of training the ServSafe Certification.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license
  • Ability to pass a background screening and meet Florida Department of Corrections requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in institutional, community-based, or high-volume food service settings
  • Experience supporting safe food handling and sanitation procedures

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals for 60–150 individuals in a program setting.
  • Set up food service areas, equipment, and utensils for daily operations.
  • Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold food items in accordance with portion and food safety standards.
  • Replenish serving stations and maintain food service supplies as needed.
  • Clean and maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, utensils, and service ware.
  • Monitor food quality and report spoiled food, defective supplies, or equipment issues.
  • Follow safety, sanitation, and workplace procedures at all times.
  • Assist with other food service and kitchen-related duties as assigned.
