The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services, and provides subsidized child care vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement and programs for youth in the community. The Division of Administration provides a wide range of support services throughout the agency to ensure all Divisions receive adequate and efficient support services to carry out their respective missions. The Division of Administration works collaboratively with many program areas offering internal resources and support necessary to function efficiently and effectively. The Division of Administration employs approximately 490 public employees and provides services in the areas of building maintenance, occupational safety and health, operational support, security, transportation, and print production. The Division also provides support to the Division of Youth and Family Justice (DYFJ) via nutrition and food services, construction, and facilities management for its two 24/7 Secure Detention facilities – Crossroads Juvenile Center (Brooklyn) and Horizon Juvenile Center (Bronx). What we’re looking for: The Food Service Manager in the Division of Administration, under general supervision and guidance from the Executive Director and Director in the Food and Nutrition Services unit, manages food service operations for one or more secure detention facilities and congregate care site. Under this guidance, the Manager will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day Food Service operations at these sites, wherein, meals are prepared and served three (3) times a day, 365 days a year, to youth and children in the care of ACS. The Manager is responsible for the supervision, management, and evaluation of Senior Cooks, Cooks, Cook Helpers, Stock Workers, and temporary employees engaged in food preparation and food service activities. The Manager directs the organization of the Food Services Unit to maintain sanitary conditions and to ensure the provision of hot, freshly cooked, tasty and presentable meals that meet NYC Food Standards while also considering the needs of the youth in our care. The Manager will be responsible for direction and administration of staff issues, inventory planning and management, addressing daily operational matters, and to serve as a liaison with facility and program leadership on site.
