About The Position

The Food & Nutrition Services General Worker (Assistant I) is responsible for performing skilled work in the preparation and service of nutritionally adequate, reimbursable meals. This position requires meeting production deadlines and ensuring the quality of food products. The worker will follow daily work schedules for food production, service, and cleaning, and participate in ongoing training related to Food & Nutrition Services.

Requirements

  • Prior food service or cashier work experience.
  • Ability to follow directions, read, and communicate in English.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, teachers, and school administrators.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • A standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved GED Testing Program.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License.
  • Bilingual skills.

Responsibilities

  • Follow daily work schedules for food production, service, and cleaning.
  • Participate in on-going state-approved training and educational initiatives relating to Food & Nutrition Services.
  • Demonstrate and promote exceptional customer service.
  • Operate point-of-sale systems according to federal guidelines when assigned.
  • Adhere to food safety rules, departmental procedures, and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP).
  • Perform kitchen duties as assigned, including pre-preparation, food production, service, backup, clean-up, and check-in orders.
  • Assist in ensuring that meal service is safe and that good quality food is served.
  • Assist with ordering, proper storage, and inventories for all supplies and food items received.
  • Follow written recipes and instructions for food preparation.
  • Operate food service equipment in a safe manner.
  • Maintain a clean work environment by removing and disposing of garbage and waste.
  • Ensure sanitation practices are adhered to.
  • Perform necessary cleaning of food service equipment and facilities.
  • Drive vans to satellite sites for food delivery.
  • Drive refrigerated/freezer trucks between sites.
  • Participate in training programs to enhance individual skills.
  • Review current developments and literature related to job responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
