About The Position

The Waukee Community School District is seeking a Food Service Worker to assist in the preparation and serving of meals, maintain cleanliness in the kitchen, and ensure compliance with food safety standards. This role is essential in providing quality food service to students while fostering a positive dining experience.

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent, highly preferred.
• Experience in food service, preferred.
• Proficiency in typing and computer usage, including cash registers/Point of Sale Terminals.
• Ability to read and interpret standardized recipes and technical documents.
• Excellent customer relations skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and customers.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a school food service environment.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.

Responsibilities

• Perform food preparation tasks including washing produce and cooking foods for breakfast and lunch.
• Label food items according to food code regulations.
• Clean and sanitize lunch trays, silverware, and kitchen equipment.
• Monitor and record food temperatures to ensure safety.
• Maintain production records for breakfast and lunch, including counts and temperatures.
• Cook using commercial kitchen equipment such as ovens and kettles.
• Stock inventory and prepare meal items, ensuring expired items are removed.
• Perform cashier duties, ensuring compliance with federal meal guidelines.
• Manage student accounts and maintain accurate records of payments.
• Communicate with parents regarding negative balance lunch accounts.
• Perform laundry duties related to kitchen linens and uniforms.
• Assist in training and onboarding new staff members.
• Conduct deep cleaning of kitchen equipment and facilities at the end of the school year.
