About The Position

To support the Food & Child Nutrition Services (FCNS) Department by taking the lead in meal preparation. Requires an individual with ability to maintain records of amounts of food prepared and left over for program accountability. Adhere to a high level of safety and sanitation standards. Responsible for preparing all entrees for breakfast, lunch, supper and other food programs. Takes the lead for preparing all menu items as directed by Cafeteria Supervisor or when no Assistant Supervisor is available and/or in the absence of the Cafeteria Supervisor Prepare meals according to FCNS standardized recipes; keep accurate count and record of food prepared and leftover Complete pre-preparation for meals as required; check and report the availability of food and supplies to Cafeteria Supervisor in advance of food preparation Properly use and maintain equipment in the preparation and service of meals and report malfunctions promptly to Cafeteria Supervisor Comply with sanitation standards as established by the City Health Department and FCNS Assist with proper storage of food and supplies as instructed by Cafeteria Supervisor Set-up, monitor and replenish serving station, as required Serve meals to customers as directed by Cafeteria Supervisor, ensuring correct portion sizes, meal requirements and time standards as established by department Read labels and use appropriate chemicals to clean and sanitize equipment, work area and utensils Clean cafeteria and/or kitchen area which include wiping down tables, picking up trash, sweeping and mopping floor, cleaning equipment, putting trash cans in proper location and putting up cafeteria seating Routinely lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. unassisted and up to 50 lbs. with assistance Attend training(s) as scheduled Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate

Requirements

  • Accredited Senior High School Diploma or valid equivalent (USA equivalency) preferred
  • Six months food service experience preferred
  • Approved City of Dallas Safety and Sanitation Certification
  • Knowledge of methods, material, equipment and appliances used in food preparation
  • Effective planning and organizational skills
  • Must be able to read, write and comprehend the English language to perform functions

Responsibilities

  • Preparing all entrees for breakfast, lunch, supper and other food programs
  • Preparing all menu items as directed by Cafeteria Supervisor or when no Assistant Supervisor is available and/or in the absence of the Cafeteria Supervisor
  • Preparing meals according to FCNS standardized recipes

  • Completing pre-preparation for meals as required
  • Checking and reporting the availability of food and supplies to Cafeteria Supervisor in advance of food preparation
  • Using and maintaining equipment in the preparation and service of meals
  • Reporting malfunctions promptly to Cafeteria Supervisor
  • Complying with sanitation standards as established by the City Health Department and FCNS
  • Assisting with proper storage of food and supplies as instructed by Cafeteria Supervisor
  • Setting-up, monitoring and replenishing serving station, as required
  • Serving meals to customers as directed by Cafeteria Supervisor, ensuring correct portion sizes, meal requirements and time standards as established by department
