The purpose of this job is to perform a variety of food preparation and service duties in support of school food service to students. The role involves following daily written and verbal work instructions, assuming major responsibility in the meal preparation and service of assigned menu items in necessary quantities and on time. The employee will assist in meal prep as assigned by the café manager and keep accurate food production and roster records daily. They will handle and prepare food in compliance with verbal directions and written procedures, and must be able to work without supervision while maintaining program standards. The position requires safely operating all food preparation equipment, setting up and serving on the line following safety and merchandising guidelines, and assisting in cleaning all kitchen equipment, cooking utensils, dishes, and dining room tables. The employee will also support the manager in preparing orders, reports, and inventories, record leftovers, store them properly, and utilize them effectively. Strict adherence to sanitation and safety rules is mandatory, and the employee will communicate with and assist afterschool program staff in the service of meals. Participation in in-service training is also required.
