About The Position

Sanford Health, the largest rural health system in the United States, is seeking a PRN / casual status Food Service Assistant / Dietary Aide to join their Dietary Team at the Good Samaritan Society in Howard Lake, a 32-bed nursing home. This role offers flexible scheduling, allowing the assistant to pick up open shifts as it fits with their schedule, with some availability required for weekday morning shifts (6:30am-1:30pm) and an additional $1.25/hour for weekend hours. The Food Service Assistant is responsible for various duties including monitoring food temperatures, setting up and maintaining clean serving areas, preparing and serving food, restocking, cleaning and sanitizing equipment, and processing payments using a computerized register. The position requires compliance with HACCP guidelines, providing excellent customer service, effective communication, and maintaining quality control standards. The assistant may operate a range of kitchen and serving equipment and must possess an understanding of food safety and sanitation processes.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 16 years of age
  • Ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to perform basic math
  • Ability to be on feet for the majority of the day and walk far distances
  • Possesses an understanding of food safety and sanitation processes
  • Serv Safe may be required to obtain within a designated time frame (depending upon location of hire)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) may be required (depending upon location requirements)

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring and recording proper temperature of food
  • Setting up and maintaining a clean and sanitized serving area

  • Complying with Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines for food service

  • Demonstrating ability to establish effective working relationships
  • Maintaining quality control standards
  • Operating equipment such as grills, beverage machines, toasters, ice cream dispensers, cash registers, computerized cash registers, steam equipment, dishwashers, telephones, refrigerators and freezers
