About The Position

The Wisconsin Union is looking for an Assistant Manager to join our Union South and Memorial Union restaurant teams. During the Academic year this position is located in Union South. During the Summer months this position will transfer to the Memorial Union. At both locations this position supports the General Manager in overseeing daily operations, ensuring excellent customer service, and supervising staff -all while maintaining high standards of food quality, cleanliness, and safety. This person in this role plays a key part in team performance, operational efficiency, and guest satisfaction. You'll work alongside other professionals and students, utilizing your skills and talent to lead a high-quality food operation for the UW Madison community. A successful candidate will have previous restaurant leadership experience and demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, and teambuilding skills.

Requirements

  • 1-year of supervisory experience in a full-service food operation – restaurant or catering
  • 1-year of experience working in an establishment serving alcohol
  • Excellent communication skills, strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • ServSafe Certificate required or able to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Alcohol Server License required or able to obtain within 6 months of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Supervision and oversight of operations with direct supervision of two or more managers
  • Experience leading teams of more than 20 employees

Responsibilities

  • Memorial Union Terrace Summer Operations - locates to these units from May to September - increased schedule demands and responsibilities
  • Enforces alcohol policy and law through carding operations on the Terrace
  • Develops, implements and oversees workflow components, and assigns and coordinates the day-to-day activities of food service staff
  • Selects, develops, implements and schedules logistics and menus for daily and catering operations
  • Leads and provides exceptional customer service, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation, catering, and associated activities
  • Assists with unit budget monitoring, management of inventory levels, and staff training
  • Monitors adherence to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures, identifies needs and makes recommendations for improvement to leadership
