About The Position

ABCD’s Food Programs provide food to community members facing food insecurity through a series of bi-weekly mobile food distributions across the City of Boston. The Program Coordinator - Food Security manages the Mobile Food Pop-Ups program and the Frozen Prepared Meals delivery program, under the supervision of the Program Director - Food Security. This role travels around Boston to provide program services with the Program Director - Food Security.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent and one to three years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Must be able to obtain a Food Pantry Workshop Certification or ServSafe certification within the first six months of employment.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and a good driving record required.
  • Must be able to work in varied work environments (indoors and outdoors) exposed to heat and cold.
  • Must be able to perform extensive walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying of items.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility, initiative, and the ability to work in a team are required.
  • Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with individuals of diverse economic and cultural backgrounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in warehouse operations is preferred.
  • Previous management experience is preferred.
  • Previous program coordination and development experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the transportation, delivery, and distribution of perishable and non-perishable food items to the Greater Boston Collaborative Food Access Hub, ABCD Food Hub office, assorted distribution locations, and ABCD neighborhood offices.
  • Load, unload, and distribute food across the city of Boston.
  • Enforce food safety guidelines and facilitate the education of supervisees and volunteers on guidelines.
  • Oversee client outreach and intake to enroll and provide service to eligible clients.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and local community based organizations.
  • Conduct inventory of food and maintain food safety standards and sanitation at all ABCD Food Hub locations.
  • Ensure the appropriate storage of food and equipment, in a safe and organized manner both in the vehicle, at ABCD Food Hub locations and at the distribution events.
  • Manage inventory and purchase food, maintain records of bills to be paid, and provide follow-up to make sure all accounts are reconciled.
  • Oversee the tracking and data collection of client information and assist in the preparation of reports for funding sources.
  • Supervise and train volunteers to effectively assist with distribution activities.
  • Develop periodic training and protocols of clerical and administrative support.
  • Assist with the expansion of ABCD’s Food Security program across our neighborhood service areas.
  • Identify community resources, organizations, grants and other program opportunities related to food security that will further ABCD’s Food Security Mission.
  • Disseminate information about the program throughout the community, representing the agency at meetings with other agencies, local groups, etc. as appropriate.
  • Assist with related grant writing, development, and implementation of programming.
