Job purpose: The Food Safety Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of all food products manufactured by Barcel USA. This role involves implementing and maintaining robust food safety protocols, conducting regular audits and inspections, and training employees in the best practices in food safety. The supervisor will also manage and update food safety policies and procedures and serve as a liaison with external regulatory agencies. A key focus of this role is to uphold the highest standards of food safety and quality across all operations. The associate is expected to lead by example, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and strong interpersonal relationships.

  • Promote and cultivate a strong food safety culture throughout the organization.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain food safety programs and procedures in compliance with applicable regulations and industry standards.
  • Conduct routine inspections of production processes, equipment, facilities, and finished products to identify and mitigate food safety risks.
  • Organize and deliver food safety training to employees, ensuring adherence to safe food handling practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate food safety requirements into all operational procedures.
  • Analyze production data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement in food safety practices.
  • Stay current with food safety regulations and industry best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Lead investigations of food safety incidents, coordinate corrective actions, and implement preventive measures.
  • Maintain effective communication with regulatory agencies and ensure timely dissemination of updates to internal stakeholders.
  • Oversee internal and external food safety audits, ensuring timely completion of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of all food safety documentation, including reports, logs, and records.
  • Champion a proactive food safety mindset and drive initiatives that reinforce a strong food safety culture.
  • Coordinate PCQI verification for preventive control records.
  • Perform and document pre-operational inspections following sanitation activities, including ATP swabbing and allergen verification, to ensure equipment and environment meet food safety standards prior to production startup.
  • Verify and validate food safety prerequisite programs on a monthly basis to proactively identify and address any deviations, ensuring timely corrective actions and continuous compliance.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for pest control services, ensuring timely communication, coordination of inspections, and resolution of any pest-related issues in compliance with food safety standards.
  • Collaborate closely with the QA Supervisor to identify opportunities for improvement, align on food safety and quality initiatives, and support continuous improvement across all departments.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as directed by management to support food safety, quality, and operational excellence.
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Microbiology or related technical field is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a food production setting, preferably in a food safety or quality role.
  • Extensive knowledge of food safety regulations and standards, including FDA and USDA regulations.
  • Experience in developing and implementing food safety programs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and influence employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Professional certifications in food safety or quality (e.g. HACCP, SQF, GFSI, PCQI) are required.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
