About The Position

The Hannibal plant is one of the most strategically important manufacturing sites in the company. The plant supports two different operating units (Meals and Baking, and Snacks), through five operating departments (Thermal – Progresso, OEP -Hard Shell, Tortilla, and Seasoning, and Nature Valley Chewy Bars), and manufactures products that generate roughly 13% of revenue for the company’s largest and most profitable segment, NAR. The plant employs over 1,000 people and encompasses nearly 750,000 sq ft of production and warehouse space. Learn more about the plant - Location_Resource_Hannibal_MO The Food Safety and Quality (FSQ) Manager will lead the FSQ team and serve as the subject matter expert on the plant leadership team. This role provides strategic direction and tactical insights on all matters related to quality, food safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance. The FSQ Manager is expected to be an active member of the Plant Leadership Team and has 9 Direct Reports and a total team size of 33. Beyond functional responsibilities, the FSQ Manager will contribute to various activities supporting the plant's Site Plan and functional priorities. As a collective leadership team, we prioritize the safety of our people, our consumers, and our culture. This role is pivotal to achieving key site priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Technical, or Food Science degree (commensurate experience will be considered).
  • 8+ years of plant experience or similar relevant experience with experience sitting on a plant leadership team.
  • Expertise in food safety and quality systems for manufacturing, working in a highly regulated environment with strong regulatory and audit programs
  • Direct people leadership experience in a manufacturing environment or other applicable experiences.
  • Ability to experiment, assess risks, and make data-based recommendations and decisions.
  • Ability to deliver results through others by managing salaried employees and/or leading cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to create and lead strategic initiatives while influencing internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse, cross-functional teams, external resources (including suppliers, regulators, and agency representatives), and corporate partners.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all aspects of Quality, Food Safety, Regulatory compliance, and Sanitation within the facility.
  • Provide organizational and personal leadership for the plant and the FSQ organization to deliver against its core mission and key performance indicators.
  • Lead the development of the FSQ team and plant employees.
  • Provide leadership in making quality and regulatory decisions that balance business needs while ensuring consumer safety and compliance with regulatory requirements. Provide timely and appropriate risk assessments.
  • Serve as the primary regulatory contact for the plant with State and Federal regulators. Maintain positive and constructive relationships while ensuring full compliance with regulatory and General Mills policies.
  • Lead our Safe Quality Foods (SQF) auditing processes and ensure certification is maintained.
  • Lead Food Safety and Regulatory Assessment (FSRA) programs for the site and ensure cross-functional commitment.
  • Provide leadership and accountability for the sanitary performance of the plant.
  • Deliver on all core tactical accountabilities of an FSQ Manager: maintain a balanced budget, manage the lab, address personnel issues, and ensure a safe and positive work environment.
  • Provide leadership in food safety and sanitation program management.
  • Initiate product and process improvements using data and analytical tools.
  • Recommend actions for improvement and ensure resolution.
  • Provide risk assessment analysis and facilitate decisions for all quality and food safety events.
  • Manage issues with non-conforming products to ensure proper control, minimize losses, and provide analysis to prevent future occurrences.
  • Provide training in all areas of Food Safety, Regulatory compliance, and Quality.
  • Interface and communicate effectively with peer plants, other functions, and central resources.
  • Provide technical expertise to resolve issues and implement proactive improvements in all areas of the business.
  • Contribute as an integral member of the plant leadership team to drive the plant strategy and culture.
