We are looking for a part-time talented Food Runner with a passion for service and a commitment to helping the restaurant run smoothly, for both the Front of House team and our guests. You will report to the Front of the House Manager, General Manager, and Kitchen Manager. Food Runner ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Food Runners play an important role at Salt + Smoke as they are the facilitators of and often last eyes on plates leaving the kitchen and being delivered to guests. Food Runners are responsible for organizing plates in the window as they come up, finishing the plates with the necessary garnishments, spoons, bread, etc., making sure they are plated and presented according to our standards, and delivering completed meals to our guests using our seat numbering system, ensuring that all ticket modifications and guest requests have been met. Food Runners also assist with to go orders, oftentimes multitasking between compiling to go bags with 100% accuracy and ensuring that food is leaving the window in the appropriate amount of time. Food Runners may also assist guests with any questions or requests they may have upon delivering food. The goal is to facilitate a fast flow of the restaurant while maintaining high levels of organization, hospitality, and cleanliness standards.

Requirements

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Organized and capable of multi-tasking with attention to detail.
  • Able to communicate efficiently and respectfully.
  • Able to work in a face paced environment.
  • Able to stand and be on feet for extended periods of time in varied climate conditions.
  • Able to carry and lift up to 50 lbs at times.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Scheduled days and times may vary based on business needs.
  • Duties, responsibilities and activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 1 to 2 years of runner, busser, or server experience in a high volume, or restaurant experience preferred.
  • Must be available PM/Nights and weekends

Responsibilities

  • Organize plates according to tickets as they appear in the window.
  • Check plates for accuracy according to ticket modifications and allergy and dietary restrictions.
  • Finish plates with any garnishments necessary.
  • Ensure that meals are plated properly and presented according to standards before leaving the kitchen.
  • Operate as the primary communication point between servers and kitchen staff should any issues or modifications arise.
  • Deliver plates to guests using our seat numbering system with excellent customer service.
  • Answer any questions guests may have about their meals or requests for additional items they may need.
  • Maintain high levels of cleanliness in the kitchen according to sanitation procedures.
  • Pre-bus any empty dishes or glassware from tables as you see them.
  • Pre-Bus, clean and set tables efficiently.
  • Package to go orders accurately and deliver to the host stand.
  • Ensure that ticket time standards are being met at all times and problem solve if they are not.
  • Stock to go stations, plate racks, and assist with any food preparation needed by the kitchen manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.
