About The Position

The Food Runner plays a critical role in delivering an exceptional dining experience at MacArthur Place. You will ensure that guests receive their meals promptly, accurately, and at the highest standard of presentation. Working closely with servers, bartenders, and kitchen staff, you will help maintain a smooth flow of service in our restaurant, bar, and event spaces. This role requires attention to detail, efficiency, and professionalism, as well as the ability to anticipate guest needs and respond courteously to special requests or dietary accommodations, including allergies. The Food Runner is an ambassador of the MacArthur Place brand, contributing to a welcoming, polished, and memorable guest experience in a fast-paced luxury environment.

Requirements

  • Previous restaurant or hospitality experience is a plus; training provided.
  • Team player with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to delivering exceptional guest service.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required training, including Food Handler and Alcohol Service Certification (or obtain upon hire).
  • Fast-paced, high-energy restaurant and hospitality environment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, push, pull, and lift/carry up to 50 lbs. for extended periods.
  • Carry and balance multiple dishes, trays, and service items simultaneously.
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures, conditions, noise levels, and exposure to hot kitchen equipment.
  • Required to maintain energy, focus, and professionalism during peak service periods.
  • Availability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and high-occupancy periods.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver meals promptly and accurately, ensuring proper presentation, temperature, and plating meet MacArthur Place luxury standards.
  • Coordinate with servers and kitchen staff to maintain smooth service flow and timely delivery of all food items.
  • Engage courteously with guests, answer menu questions, make suggestions, and ensure dietary restrictions, allergies, and special requests are handled appropriately; escalate concerns to management and culinary leaders as needed.
  • Respond promptly to guest inquiries and support servers by delivering additional condiments, utensils, beverages, or other guest requests.
  • Assist with tray assembly, table setups, and service for special events, banquets, or room service.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, tables, and service stations; restock trays, utensils, condiments, and supplies.
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and allergen-handling guidelines to ensure guest safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Monitor the dining environment for safety hazards, including spills, hot plates, or obstacles, and take corrective action.
  • Perform pre-shift duties, including setting up stations, preparing trays/utensils, checking supplies, and ensuring the dining area is ready for service.
  • Perform post-shift duties, including cleaning service areas, storing supplies, restocking for the next shift, and assisting with inventory checks.
  • Collaborate with team members during peak service periods to ensure timely delivery and a seamless guest experience.
  • Maintain a polished appearance and professional demeanor at all times, adhering to grooming, uniform, and conduct standards.
  • Follow timekeeping, attendance, meal, and rest break policies in accordance with California labor laws.
  • Uphold MacArthur Place’s luxury service standards and commitment to hospitality excellence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
