About The Position

Salt + Smoke is seeking a part-time Food Runner for its South County location. The ideal candidate is passionate about great food, great people, and delivering outstanding experiences in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment. This role requires a commitment to excellence, hospitality, the ability to multi-task, and a positive, upbeat demeanor. Food Runners are crucial facilitators, ensuring plates leave the kitchen accurately and are delivered to guests according to Salt + Smoke's high standards. Salt + Smoke is known for its St. Louis-style BBQ, bourbon, and beer, with a strong focus on its people and community service across multiple neighborhoods.

Requirements

  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Organized and capable of multi-tasking with attention to detail.
  • Able to communicate efficiently and respectfully.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Able to stand and be on feet for extended periods of time in varied climate conditions.
  • Able to carry and lift up to 50 lbs at times.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of runner, busser, or server experience in a high volume, or restaurant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Organize plates according to tickets as they appear in the window.
  • Check plates for accuracy according to ticket modifications and allergy and dietary restrictions.
  • Finish plates with any garnishments necessary.
  • Ensure that meals are plated properly and presented according to standards before leaving the kitchen.
  • Operate as the primary communication point between servers and kitchen staff should any issues or modifications arise.
  • Deliver plates to guests using our seat numbering system with excellent customer service.
  • Answer any questions guests may have about their meals or requests for additional items they may need.
  • Maintain high levels of cleanliness in the kitchen according to sanitation procedures.
  • Pre-bus any empty dishes or glassware from tables as you see them.
  • Pre-Bus, clean and set tables efficiently.
  • Package to go orders accurately and deliver to the host stand.
  • Ensure that ticket time standards are being met at all times and problem solve if they are not.
  • Stock to go stations, plate racks, and assist with any food preparation needed by the kitchen manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.
