The Food Runner plays a crucial role in the dining experience by assisting Servers in expediting food tickets and ensuring that high-quality food items are delivered to the correct tables and guests. This position is essential for providing a superior guest experience, as the Food Runner must observe tables to communicate with the Food Server Assistant about guests who are nearing the completion of their current course. This proactive approach helps to initiate the preparation and timely service of the next course, ensuring that guests have a seamless dining experience. In this role, the Food Runner is expected to promote the venue's image by displaying impeccable manners, diplomacy, and tact towards guests. Greeting guests at their tables is a key responsibility, as is expediting food tickets and ensuring that the food prepared by the Chef meets high-quality standards upon delivery. The Food Runner must know the seat numbers to serve food accurately and announce dishes as they are placed in front of guests. Additionally, the Food Runner is responsible for continually bussing and resetting tables throughout their shift, offering condiments and seasonings, delivering beverages, and organizing table settings. They must also handle to-go orders and accommodate special guest requests while maintaining the same high-quality standards. Maintaining a clean and inviting atmosphere is another critical aspect of the Food Runner's duties. This includes circulating through the work area to ensure a constant flow of communication with the team and assisting in keeping the venue clean. Compliance with workplace health and safety requirements is mandatory, including specific training regarding equipment and procedures. The Food Runner is also responsible for polishing glassware, chinaware, and cutlery, as well as ensuring proper food safety and sanitation standards to guarantee guest safety. Participation in briefings and other scheduled meetings is expected, and the Food Runner may be assigned additional duties to support the efficient operation of the department. This position requires a high school diploma or GED, previous job-related experience, and a genuine desire to satisfy the needs of others in a fast-paced environment. The Food Runner must possess strong communication skills to effectively understand and convey information to coworkers and guests.
