About The Position

The Food Pantry Assistant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of Wesley Community Center’s Reba Veal Henderson food pantry alongside and in the Food Programs Coordinator. This includes supporting food distribution events, pantry operations, volunteer management, client relations, data entry, and inventory.

Requirements

• Be able to handle the stress of a labor-intensive job.
• The ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 75 pounds.
• Maintain Food Handlers permit
• Maintain Civil Rights Trainer’s Certification
• TXDL is required.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred and/or meets experience criteria
• A minimum of (3) years’ work experience in similar organization and activities or operations, customer service, or retail grocery experience.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience working in a grocery store and knowledge of food pantry operations helpful, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with maintaining product inventories necessary for executing regular food programs including Choice Pantry and Emergency Food.
• Maintain organization and stock of food at the food pantry to ease distribution.
• Adhere to all local, state, and/or federal health regulations including food preparation and sanitation standards.
• Collect accurate database documentation, client records and weight records for completion of regular monthly reporting.
• Regularly input and update client information into organization database.
• Maintain relationships with current vendors and/or program partners.
• Support work of all volunteer members and/or groups supporting operation of food programming and provide meaningful volunteer activities for pantry’s success.
• Maintain cleanliness of interior of the food pantry, including sweeping, mopping and regularly cleaning surfaces
• Uphold Wesley Community Center’s mission and values.
