About The Position

The Food Programs Specialist oversees all aspects of the organization’s Food Pantry Programs, including the Weekend Hunger Backpack Program (WHBP), Rural Mobile Outreach Program, and the in-house Food Pantry. This role involves heavy lifting, loading and unloading food truck deliveries, ordering food and supplies, supervising pantry activities and events, coordinating volunteers, and assisting with food deliveries. The Food Programs Specialist works closely with community partners to organize food drives and maintains strong relationships with school staff to ensure the WHBP operates efficiently. Additionally, the role includes managing client data in record-keeping software, maintaining accurate records of clients served using Excel and other tools, and compiling data for grant reporting to ensure compliance with funding requirements.

  • High School Diploma
  • At least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Clear a Level II background screening.
  • Clear a reference check (professional and personal)
  • Clear a local background check from the county in which you reside.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Clear a Motor Vehicles Records check.
  • Provide proof of and maintain a minimum personal auto insurance according to agency standards.
  • Provide a copy of all certifications prior to your first day of employment.
  • Clear an E-Verify check to substantiate that the successful candidate meets the Department of Homeland Security authorization requirements to work in the United States (for more information visit www.dhs.gov/e-verify).
  • Valid Florida state driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate the mobile rural outreach program, WHBP, and Senior Program, ensuring safe and timely delivery of food donations to outreach sites.
  • Plan and adjust daily food distribution based on available inventory and client needs, utilizing intake assessments to determine necessary services.
  • Maintain accurate records of food inventory and client information and prepare required reports for USDA, PQI, and other stakeholders.
  • Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of box trucks (12–24 feet), including scheduling regular services such as oil changes, tire rotations, and inspections, and ensuring all maintenance records are accurately documented.
  • Drive food routes safely and responsibly, adhering to legal and organizational standards.
  • Supervise the cleanliness and maintenance of facilities, coolers, equipment, and vehicles, ensuring all areas are sanitized and secure for staff, volunteers, clients, and visitors.
  • Support food drives and collection of donated goods throughout the year, including planning and logistical coordination.
  • Train and manage volunteers, ensuring compliance with operational and safety procedures for food distribution and outreach events.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners to enhance outreach efforts and facilitate food assistance programs.
  • Lead preparation and execution of food distribution events, including mobile pantry operations and community food drops.
  • Ensure compliance with Catholic Charities, USDA, and Second Harvest guidelines for food storage, distribution, and reporting.
  • Provide excellent customer service to clients, community partners, and internal teams.
  • Compile data and support the preparation of grant-related reports to meet funding requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall success of food assistance programs.
