You’ll play an important role in educating, protecting, and caring for students, helping them soar and become kind, capable humans—and future leaders. Overview: The role of the Foods and Nutrition Service Worker (up to 6 hours per day) includes preparing food items and serving meals to students and faculty. The position operates and cleans equipment while following ServSafe standards for food preparation, safety, storage, and disposal. The worker may assist the manager or assistant manager with kitchen staff oversight and training and will report directly to the Food Service Manager.

Requirements

  • Ability to acquire and maintain a Food Handler’s Permit or ServSafe certification prior to beginning work
  • Ability to safely operate, clean, and maintain basic kitchen equipment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively as part of a team
  • Dependable, detail-oriented, and able to follow established procedures
  • Self-motivated with the ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to maintain a positive demeanor and work effectively under pressure
  • Basic computer skills and point-of-sale system use
  • Competency in reading, writing, and basic math
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow standard operating procedures and recipes
  • Commitment to strict personal hygiene and food safety standards
  • Ability to attend required summer training and start work one week prior to the start of school in August
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull kitchen items and equipment as required (up to 70 lbs in some tasks)
  • Ability to bend, reach, squat, kneel, and perform repetitive motions
  • Ability to work safely in environments with heat, wet surfaces, and kitchen equipment
  • Ability to communicate verbally with students, staff, and supervisors
  • This position requires a high level of dependability and punctuality.
  • The successful candidate must be able to adapt quickly, prioritize effectively, and remain flexible.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior food service or related experience preferred, but not required
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare menu items for breakfast and lunch and serve food to students, faculty, and patrons
  • Fill milk coolers and assist managers with daily needs
  • Use a computer and point-of-sale system for meal service
  • Operate, clean, and maintain kitchen equipment
  • Clean and sanitize food prep and serving areas
  • Monitor students trays for federal reimbursable meal compliance
  • Follow standardized recipes, menus, and special diet preparations
  • Maintain a clean, safe kitchen and dining environment
  • Assist with inventory, storage, and food deliveries
  • Participate in promotions, themed days, and special events even beyond the normal work day.
  • Complete required training and follow safety guidelines
  • Maintain punctuality and regular attendance
