About the position

In this role the OwnBrands Labeling Specialist will support the OwnBrands labeling process through assistance, review and guidance to ensure product and procedure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Review, interpret and evaluate store brand labels, ingredient statements, nutrition labels, etc. to ensure compliance with federal, state and local rules and regulations.
  • Act as the primary contact in all aspects of OwnBrand product labeling and compliance including regulatory directives on nutrition and ingredients.
  • Work cross functionally to maintain the agility of the food labeling process with necessary work teams to handle all phases of the product label change process.
  • Review and approve artwork, graphics, and text of existing and proposed product labels to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain regulatory documentation related to ingredients, formulations, and labels and ensure compliance with company policy and federal regulations.
  • Collect, record, and submit to leadership label deficiencies, consumer concerns, compliance results, etc.
  • Compile, validate, and maintain the company's store brand ingredient nutrition information database.
  • Respond to external inquiries and/or concerns about store product nutrition, ingredients, claims related to OwnBrands labeling.
  • Lead, coordinate, and maintain regulatory compliance related to products and ingredients specifications, product formulations, packaging, and food labeling.
  • Identify regulatory concerns and communicate to the appropriate individuals.
  • Request, approve and maintain OwnBrand Specifications, ensure specifications are approved in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred) in Food Science, Nutrition or related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Two years' experience in compliance, nutrition, quality assurance or related area required; preferably in labeling within a grocery retail environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technical writing skills and sound math aptitude.
  • Superior proofreading, organizational, time management skills and detail oriented.
  • Must have general knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws and food regulatory requirements.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
