About The Position

The Trinity Health Food is Medicine Program has grown exponentially in the past three years, increasing in the number of patient and community engagements from 30,000 to more than 100,000 annually. This growth has created opportunity for an internship position to support larger scope initiatives including annual program evaluation of clinical outcomes, behavior change, and patient satisfaction. Additionally, this internship would offer support for special projects including implementation of select program areas which may include; evidence based, nutrition education classes, regenerative land management practices, new location project planning and site assessments, and/or Medicaid Managed Care In lieu of services program support. This position will work closely with the Managers of Farm Programs, Farmers, Food Program Coordinators, and Education Coordinators to support all aspects of food security and Food is Medicine programming. The Intern reports to the Director, Food is Medicine and The Farm at Trinity Health. Requirements

  • High school diploma or current enrollment in college courses
  • Strong interpersonal skills to assist with volunteers and promotion of The Farm with an engaging, positive demeanor.
  • Comfort in outdoor settings.
  • Willingness to work in physically demanding environment
  • Confidence in public speaking to groups.
  • Ability to develop and implement educational offerings.
  • Availability to work within scheduled programs.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience creating healthy recipes and coming up with educational offerings for a diverse audience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Farmers in all aspects of crop production including seeding, soil prep, cultivation, harvest, storage, and sales.
  • Trains and leads volunteer groups in coordination with the Farmers and Education Coordinator.
  • Assists staff in all aspects of Farm Share operations including receiving produce, leading volunteers on the pack-line, packing shares, assisting member sign-in, cooler management (cleaning, temping, organizing) and other duties as assigned.
  • Assists with cut flower production including leading volunteers for harvest and bouquet construction, coordinating with hospital personnel for donation delivery, managing flower gardens and production spaces.
  • Develop and implement supplemental educational offerings (e.g., recipe samples, workshop curriculum)
  • Create educational materials to accompany vegetables distributed to clinics and Farm Share members (e.g., vegetable storage tips, information about Farm programming, healthy recipes).
  • Assists with data collection and analysis of Farm operations and outcomes.
  • Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships.
  • Approaches conflict in a constructive manner.
  • Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, physicians, colleagues, and visitors to Trinity Health
  • Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.
  • Behaves in accordance with the Code of Conduct, Service Excellence Standards, and the Mission, Vision and Values of THMI.
  • Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
