How you'll contribute A Food and Nutritional Services Worker who excels in this role:

Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience: One year of experience in food service and/or preparation setting (restaurant, hospital, nursing center, hotel, etc.) preferred.
  • License: Food Safety/Sanitation certification required as per state regulations.
  • Additional Requirements: De-escalation certification required within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Dietary Manager and Registered Dietitian to support menu planning and meet patient-specific nutritional needs.
  • Stores and rotates food and consumable items in compliance with health department regulations and hospital guidelines.
  • Adheres to FIFO (First In, First Out) rotation standards, ensuring no expired products remain on-site, and properly dates and labels all food items.
  • Maintains accurate documentation and monitors temperatures from delivery through service.
  • Follows all sanitation and food safety protocols, including proper food‑handling procedures and the use of service utensils and gloves.
  • Ensures equipment is cleaned according to safety and sanitation standards.
  • Prepares meals in accordance with the menu cycle and daily production sheets, with attention to presentation, flavor, portion control, and production accuracy.
  • Ensures meal trays are accurately prepared for patients unable to visit the cafeteria.
  • Engages with patients and staff in the serving line while providing nutritionally balanced meal options.
  • Other duties as assigned.
