Job Summary: Focal Plane Engineer is responsible for technical execution of advanced infrared and visible focal plane array development and production programs through successful deliveries. Focal Plane Engineer will identify design opportunities and devote to technology advancements, manufacturing process improvements and process controls.

  • Work closely with Control Account Managers (CAMs), Program Managers and System Engineers to provide overall technical leadership for effective project planning, efficient execution, and close monitoring of program tasks.
  • Collaborate with diverse teams in crystal material growth, array detector fabrication, flip-chip hybridization, sensor assembly and performance testing to leverage existing or emerging design and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Identify and implement design improvements in growth structure, device architecture and manufacturing processes for cutting-edge sensor performance.
  • Discover and address manufacturability and scalability issues early in the design process and provide effective remedies.
  • Perform device modeling, analyze detector and focal plane array test data, and provide feedback to manufacturing process controls and improvements.
  • Contribute to technical writing of whitepapers, proposals, and technical reports, and support internal and external program reviews.
  • Strong background in electro-optical semiconductor device design and fabrication, productization and manufacturing engineering processes
  • Solid technical knowledge in one or more of following areas: Thin-film semiconductor materials, photodetector arrays, CMOS readout integrated circuit, flip-chip hybridization, and focal plane array assembly and testing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate at any level of audience.
  • Experience in technical project management, risk assessment, statistical process control and design of experiments.
  • Ability to work effectively both in a team environment and as an individual contributor.
  • Exemplary business ethics and work routine cognizant of safe work practices.
  • Master’s degree with minimum of five years of experience, or Ph.D. degree with minimum of three years of experience, in Physics or engineering discipline (electrical engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, or industrial engineering).
