About The Position

The FMS/AMS Engineer position at the Florida Department of Transportation involves managing the District's freeway and arterial operations program. The role includes developing operations contract documents, overseeing consultant work, and implementing traffic control plans. The engineer will coordinate funding and planning for transportation system management projects, manage contracts, and support the development of strategic plans for the TSM&O program.

Requirements

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in accordance with Chapter 471, Florida Statutes, or ability to obtain registration by endorsement within six months of appointment.
  • Knowledge of traffic engineering/operation principles and analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge of TSM&O concepts, terminology, principles, and practice.
  • Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret engineering data.
  • Skilled in project management and scheduling.
  • Skilled in the use of computer applications such as Microsoft Word and spreadsheets.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the District's freeway/arterial operations program.
  • Develop operations contract documents and associated funding plans.
  • Coordinate or oversee the work of consultant/contract staff.
  • Oversee development and implementation of corridor control plans and traffic timing plans.
  • Sign and seal engineering documents as required.
  • Coordinate development and implementation of standard operating procedures to achieve freeway operations objectives.
  • Coordinate funding, planning, and development of TSM&O projects.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, funding plans, and public outreach plans.
  • Manage various professional and contractual services contracts.
  • Coordinate with the ITS Support Manager in managing Road Ranger service patrols and Traffic Incident Management Team meetings.
  • Administer operations/maintenance contracts for the RTMC and ITS field devices.
  • Coordinate development and implementation of the TSM&O freeway/arterial maintenance program.
  • Support development of the Department's TSM&O program at various levels.
  • Develop and review studies, reports, and documents relating to the District's Arterial and Freeway Management System program.
  • Manage development, implementation, and refinement of the District's TSM&O Program Strategic Plan.
