This role will work in person at KQED's newly renovated headquarters. Salary Information: $38.00-$67.00 per hour. The successful candidate will be required to join National Association of Broadcast Employees and Technicians (NABET) Local 51.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience with FM and HD transmitters
  • Proficiency in IT and networking
  • Familiarity with digital audio delivery/streaming technologies
  • Exceptional time management skills and multitasking abilities
  • Proficiency in documentation tools like Excel, Word, and Google Docs
  • Strong communication skills - active listening and interpersonal soft-skills; the ability to speak 'operator' as well as 'engineer' is key
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to provide on-call support 24/7 in case of equipment failure
  • Ability to inspect, repair, and maintain all broadcast radio station equipment, including transmitters, antennas, satellite downlinks, automation system, studio equipment, remote equipment, generators, telephone system, audio routing systems, consoles, etc.
  • Valid Driver's License Required

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with production and newsroom asset management systems (Dalet Galaxy experience a plus)
  • Experience with automated master control systems
  • Knowledge of digital routing systems and consoles
  • Proficiency in remote PC access tools
  • Experience with industry-standard DAWs
  • Knowledge of digital audio standards
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Visio

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, repair, and maintain broadcast radio equipment
  • Respond to equipment outages and technical problems
  • Conduct routine diagnostic testing and document maintenance activities
  • Troubleshoot broadcast equipment issues to the board level
  • Provide IT support to users with varying experience
  • Stay up-to-date with FCC Rules and Regulations
  • Assist in maintaining station transmitter and EAS Logs
