About The Position

The Flynn Fellowship Oncology Student Nurse Internship is a per diem opportunity designed for nursing students to gain hands-on experience in oncology nursing. This program aims to stimulate career interest and foster professional development through direct observation and exposure to various oncology nursing roles and responsibilities. Participants will engage in a comprehensive learning experience, including clinical practice, patient support programs, and an Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) project.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited School/Department of BSN program.
• Must have achieved and maintained a 3.0 GPA and be in good standing.
• Has successfully completed their school's Fundamental Nursing Skills Laboratory and is currently enrolled in or has completed at least one semester of relevant clinical.

• Experience in oncology nursing or related fields.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates basic skill in observing, assessing and communicating patient needs.
• Identifies changes in patient's condition and reports pertinent information to healthcare team members in conjunction with RN mentor.
• Demonstrates basic skill in planning and providing direct patient care.
• Accepts report with RN mentor on patient assignment.
• Completes non-therapeutic functions as directed.
• Follows correct procedure in performing non-therapeutic functions as directed/supervised by RN mentor.
• Demonstrates accountability and responsibility in performance of role.
• Attendance meets Human Resources Student Nurse Intern guidelines.
• Demonstrates development in professional growth through daily activities.
• Identifies areas in performance needing improvement.
• Performs decentralized laboratory testing as credentialed and following established policies and procedures.
• Appropriately collects specimens and performs tests under the direction and/or supervision of RN mentor.
