This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. Apply standard engineering knowledge and methods to design, plan, model, execution, and interpretation of tests for aerospace systems and components. Responsible for the execution and analysis of component, subsystem, and integrated vehicle testing to verify requirements and validate operational capabilities. Development, release, and support of engineering artifacts across the development cycle to support verification, testing, and operations. Ensures accurate record of measurement data. Provides safe, repeatable, and quality test capabilities that help explore the operational envelope and verify requirements for the current and next generation of aerospace systems. Ensures testing procedures meet industry standards. Lunar Permanence is Blue Origin’s team dedicated to developing mission architectures such as our planned Lunar Lander program, Blue Moon (Link: https://www.blueorigin.com/blue-moon ). Our Lunar Permanence team is developing our lunar landers to demonstrate core capabilities – including the BE-7 landing engine, precision landing sensors, and advanced integrated power and propulsion architecture. This role is for a Fluids Test Engineer within the MK1 Integration and Test team, supporting our mission to return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth. Requirements

  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space!
  • BS in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical engineering, Physics, or related technical discipline
  • 5+ years of applicable fluids, pneumatic, or cryogenic experience
  • Understanding of P&ID’s, pressure systems, and associated GSE
  • Understand the Test Like You Fly assessment and exception process
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
  • Experience and drive to work collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with space vehicle component or integrated vehicle testing including fluids, thermal, leak, proof.
  • Cryogenic commodity and system experience
  • Experience with test facility instrumentation and Data Acquisition and Control Systems
  • Experience with hazardous commodity operations (H2, O2, N2, He)
  • Experience with scripting (Python or other scripting language)

Responsibilities

  • Develop test plans and procedures for vehicle level development and qualification testing
  • Lead daily test operations, operate test consoles (IGS), direct technician work, and coordinate with internal and external customers
  • Work with the design and systems engineers to plan tests of the vehicle fluid and thermal systems, ensuring the tests are designed to verify the appropriate requirements
  • Design, procure, and install test support equipment; manage vendors and subcontractors during installation
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise during testing
  • Reduce, analyze, and archive test data to support verification tasks
  • Perform root cause, system hazard analysis and failure investigations as necessary
  • Find opportunities for safety improvements and be resourceful
  • Proactively prepare status updates and communicates both within the organization and external partners
  • Have frequent inter-organizational and customer interactions on challenging technical issues
  • Work independently to determine and develop approaches to solutions
  • Participate in test readiness review, pre and post test briefings, and post test reviews.
  • Assist with procedural redlines and updates during test campaigns
  • Coordinate test crews, support equipment and vehicle configurations for testing
  • Enforce safety policies during test planning and operations
