About The Position

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable. We are seeking a Level 3 Fluids Engineer to join our team. This position involves developing, testing, and implementing fluid systems for our aerospace projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in fluids and thermal systems, engineering principles, and the ability to work in a collaborative environment. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Requirements

  • Four-year aerospace or mechanical engineering degree (or similar discipline)
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role
  • Experience with Solid modelling, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and configuration control of engineering and documentation.
  • Experience understanding fabrication and installation drawings
  • Knowledge of standard components, installation, and fabrication methods of piping systems (pipe stock, fittings, connections, valves, fasteners, structural members, fittings, welding, etc.)
  • Knowledge of typical use, constraints, and specification of fluid components typical in tubing and piping systems (valves, regulators, pumps, etc.).
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with teams composed of multiple roles and disciplines to achieve a common goal.
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs (ANSYS Preferred)

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting mechanical and/or piping systems.
  • Experience with creating process hazards analyses, job hazards analysis and formal risk evaluation.
  • Experience with design and operation of typical aerospace fuel, oxidizer, and high-pressure pneumatic systems.
  • Experience with design, operations, and maintenance of cryogenic systems.
  • Knowledge of precision cleaning processes / levels and passivation of stainless steel
  • Knowledge of marine environment corrosion mitigation (material and coatings selection)
  • Familiarity with test equipment, such as multimeters, dew point meters, vacuum equipment, regulator panels.
  • Work with REFPROP, SINDA/FLUINT and Thermal Desktop or other fluid modeling software
  • Experience troubleshooting fluids hardware

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, and test fluid systems including pneumatic, cryogenic, thermal, and environmental control systems.
  • Develop and validate models of fluid systems using relevant software tools.
  • Conduct experiments and analyze data to understand system and component performance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate fluid systems into aerospace vehicles.
  • Prepare technical documentation and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical input for continuous improvement.
  • Good project management skills are vital, including vendor management, scheduling, and budget tracking
  • Author component specifications and manage suppliers through design, development, qualification and delivery of flight hardware

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program.
  • Paid Time Off: Up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays.
